Hart InterCivic Statement on Ohio Project EVEREST
published 12/14/2007
AUSTIN, Texas – Hart InterCivic continues its dedication to providing secure, accurate, reliable, accessible, and manageable voting solutions for the public and the elections officials we serve. The Hart voting system is fully capable of providing a central count solution, if that is what the State of Ohio determines is the best voting solution.
Security is about people, procedures, and technology. Security is an integral part of the Hart Voting System. In 2003, Hart contracted with a well-known independent consulting firm to conduct a security audit of our system. We took the recommendations from that audit and applied them to our system – adding security features that were not in any voting system standards either documented by the federal government or any state. Hart InterCivic continually works to improve security, both through technology and through helping our customers engage in appropriate security-minded processes and procedures.
The Hart Voting System was introduced in order to help make voting more accessible and accurate for the voter and more secure, reliable and efficient for the dedicated elections office staff members who manage our nation’s elections. Our system is being successfully used in thousands of jurisdictions. None of these have ever reported problems with fraud or security breaches of any kind on their electronic voting system. Threat model and security evaluations should be part of federal and state standards that are defined before voting systems are designed, so that the systems can be designed to meet the standards. Hart InterCivic has always complied with federal and state guidelines, and we have independently sought to improve our system security when no standard was offered for the voting system industry.
Hart InterCivic's Voting Systems are secure, accurate, reliable and accessible for all voters. Independent reviews have been crucial to Hart's implementation of security measures in the past, and Hart will continue to improve our voting system with this type of input. Hart InterCivic is committed to working with federal and state agencies and the local elections officials we serve in order to make future elections successful.
