AUSTIN, Texas – October 7, 2009 – Hart InterCivic, a leading national provider of election management and voting systems, today announced the Hart ePollBook™ – the only electronic pollbook for Texas jurisdictions that streamlines voter check-in and verification while providing seamless integration with the Texas Election Administration Management (TEAM) statewide voter registration system. The Hart ePollBook is based on technology developed by Scytl Secure Electronic Voting with whom the company announced a partnership.
First demonstrated at the Texas Secretary of State Election Law Conference in August, the ePollBook is a secure and cost-effective software solution that helps poll workers quickly locate a voter, issue the correct ballot and reliably update the voter’s record. By automating what has historically been a manual process, the ePollBook improves the accuracy and speed of checking in voters while reducing paperwork and errors.
“Poll workers love the ePollBook’s easy-to-read screen and simple methods for locating and verifying voters,” said Marcus MacNeill, vice president of products and partnerships for Hart InterCivic. “Besides accelerating the check-in process, the paper-less solution saves money and trees which are top-of-mind concerns today.”
Designed expressly for jurisdictions using the TEAM voter registration system, the Hart ePollBook offering:
- Supports jurisdictions using Hart, ES&S or Premier voting systems
- Enables anywhere voting – Early Voting, Vote Centers, Election Day
- Allows jurisdictions to re-purpose old computers (software-only solution)
- Integrates with magnetic card readers and bar code scanners for fast lookup
- Provides encrypted communications between all devices in a polling location
- Securely synchronizes between pollbooks and the master jurisdiction database
- Guides poll workers through the check-in process using customizable instructions
- Prints a barcode for scanning into Hart’s JBC to ensure accurate ballot style selection
“After evaluating electronic pollbook providers, Hart was delighted to partner with Scytl,” added MacNeill. “Not only is Scytl well regarded for their secure and highly innovative solutions, they were committed to working with us to deliver a quality product for our Texas customers in time for the 2010 election cycle.”
“We're extremely pleased with this partnership with Hart and the opportunities that it opens,” said Eric Elbhar Director of Global Alliances of Scytl Secure Electronic Voting. “We expect the ePollBook to be the start of a very productive relationship between Hart and Scytl to offer secure and cost-effective electoral solutions in the U.S. market.”
Availability and Pricing
The Hart ePollBook will be piloted by select jurisdictions during the November 2009 Constitutional Amendment Election and will become available for purchase in December 2009. Pricing terms were not disclosed.
